Instructions

Beloved spouses! After being joined in marriage according to civil law, you present yourself in front of the majesty of God and these witnesses Christians, to consecrate your union, and to invoke upon you the heavenly blessing.

Listen, therefore, with meditation and faith, the teachings of the Holy Scriptures about the state of marriage in which you came, that ye may know how it is to be considered and it is required to be truly Christian.

1.

God, who is the Father of mankind, after creating the heavens and the earth, formed man in His image, and gave him a helper fit for him, because he said the Lord: “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him” (Give. 2:18), then blessed them. Thus creating a man and a woman, joining them in their state of innocence, God has ordained the institution of marriage, founded the family, for the good of man and woman, and for the prosperity of human society. This we are reminded by the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, when, in answer to the Pharisees who asked if it was The allowed a man to divorce his wife for any reason, told them: “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning, made them male and female? And he said: “Therefore shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and the two will become one flesh”. And so they are no longer two, but one flesh, Therefore what God has joined together, no man put asunder” (Mt. 19:4-6).

2.

Listen, Now what are the duties that Scripture prescribes the spouses:

(The groom)

“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church and gave himself up for her… So husbands ought to love their wives, as their own bodies; who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes, even as the Lord does the church” (If the. 5:25,28,29). Says the Apostle Paul: “Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them” (Cl. 3:19). “Let the husband render to his wife the conjugal duty, and likewise the wife to her husband” (1 Co. 7:3). Similarly writes the apostle Peter: “to, husbands, you live with your wives with understanding due to the woman, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers be not hindered” (1 Pi. 3:7).

3.

(The bride)

Scripture also says: “We, be submissive to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord” (Cl. 3:18), “…For the husband is head of the wife, as Christ is the head of the church, and he is the savior of the body” (If the. 5:23), and this “so that, although there are some who do not obey the word, they may be won without a word through the conduct of their wives, when they behold your chaste conduct accompanied by fear” (1 Pi. 3:1,2). The virtuous wife, we read in Proverbs: “Its value is far above rubies. The heart of her husband trusts in her and will always gains. She does him good and not evil, all the days of his life…. She looketh well to his home and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises” (Pr. 31:10-12, 27,28).
